The magic of the Kymijoki River
Enjoy the Kymijoje!
The magic of the Kymijoki River
The westernmost branch of the Kymijoki River flows through Strömfors. The river has given life to the village and is still the bustling heart of the pottery. In what other ways can you experience the Kymijoki River at a pottery?
Enjoy the Kymijoki River with a visit to a pond!
1. Spend a day at the beach in Kiramo!
Strömfors Ruuk has a hidden secret, namely the stunning Kiramo beach! Kiramo beach has two marked swimming areas, one of which is also suitable for younger families. The beach also has a volleyball court, a fireplace, changing rooms and a hut. Bring a towel!
What's the name? Kiramo beach is named after the traditional log hoist, the "kiramo". Ruuk's kiramo was located on the site of the present beach.
2. Go on a river trip by kayak or canoe!
At Strömfors Pond you will find both equipment rental for self-paddling or you can go on a guided kayaking trip! You can choose from shorter, leisurely routes suitable for families and beginners, or longer, more challenging routes that offer more adventure and physical challenge. Along the way, you can stop for a picnic lunch in scenic spots, swim in the fresh water or just enjoy the silence and beautiful scenery.
Find out more about kayaking routes here! Rent equipment either Wellsters or from the campsite!
3. Listen to the rapids on the terrace of Strömfors Mylly restaurant
Until the 1950s, the Strömfors rapids still raged almost unchecked, until the current earth bridge was built over the dam. It enclosed the noise of the rapids and now the sounds of the water can be enjoyed Strömfors Mill-on the lower terrace of the Strömfors restaurant! The terrace also runs along the shore of the pond, along which you can walk around the southern part of the area all the way from Saha to Alapaja!
4. Spend the night on the waves or on the beach of the Kymi River.
If you want to stay longer in the gentle waters of the river, stay there all night. Ruukki offers two ways to curl up in nature: an experiential Laawu stay floating on the Kymijoki River and a tentsile experience at the Hattarniemi wilderness lodge. Both destinations offer a unique experience to enjoy a dusky evening, a campfire and stunning sunsets on the Kymijoki River.
