The first exhibition tour of the summer: May 8–June 3
Lobby Gallery: Olli Korkala’s “Geometric Play”
Olli Korkala has found his own artistic voice through a naive and impressionistic style, and over the years his work has shifted increasingly toward abstraction. Recently, geometric abstractions have become particularly important to the artist: the interplay of form and color and their balance provide a comforting contrast to the chaotic world in which we now live.
Gallery V2: Sirkka Peisa’s “A Touch of the Garden”
Sirkka Peisa’s “A Whiff of the Garden” brings together lingering memories and subtle observations of nature—as if a whiff of the garden were captured on canvas. The works do not seek to copy nature, but rather to capture the trace it leaves behind. Pastel tones and soft layers construct a world where direct representation gives way to emotion: in its place emerges a light touch or a fleeting glimmer of light. The acrylic paintings sit at the intersection of the representational and the abstract.
Gallery V2: Ritva Kokkola-Lemarchand’s “Petals”
Ritva Kokkola-Lemarchand’s “Petals” brings together a selection of the artist’s works. Kokkola is a bold user of color and paints unapologetically about the subjects that inspire her. She is versatile in her techniques and masters both the precise details of her more delicate works and the rougher brushstrokes on large canvases. Kokkola is a member of the Häntälä Arts artist collective.
Attic Gallery: Aarne Ruokokoski’s “A Sparkling Summer Morning”
Aarne Ruokokoski paints in a naturalistic style, but for him, atmosphere is more important than detail: the way light filters through the leaves and how the scene comes to life in the viewer’s mind. The shimmering air, the quiet forest, and the shifting light create a space where time seems to stand still. The exhibition brings together the artist’s oil paintings, in which light and the moment take center stage.
