Blacksmith at Strömfors Ironworks

The Blacksmith of Ruukki – Blacksmithing Demonstrations at the Historic Yläpaja

Blacksmithing demonstrations at Strömfors Ironworks

At the Upper Forge of the Strömfors Ironworks, you can witness traditional craftsmanship in an authentic blacksmith’s workshop setting. In the summer, the old smithy comes to life as blacksmith Matias Moilanen heats the iron in the forge and shapes it with the blows of his hammer. The forging process provides a concrete illustration of the kind of work that was done at the ironworks in the old days and why the blacksmith’s trade was an important part of everyday life at the ironworks.

The blacksmithing demonstration takes you back to a time when daily life in the ironworks revolved around iron, fire, and skilled hands. The demonstration is perfect for history buffs, families with children, and anyone looking to experience something authentic and unique on a summer day.At the same time, you can explore the historic ironworks setting, visit the area’s museums, shops, and exhibitions, and enjoy the services of the cafés and restaurants.
